Presentation of Christ in the Temple, St. Catherine's Monastery, Sinai, 12th century |
Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word:
For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared
before the face of all peoples, a light to enlighten the Gentiles,
and the glory of Thy people Israel.
For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared
before the face of all peoples, a light to enlighten the Gentiles,
and the glory of Thy people Israel.

I have always loved this story, and the words of Simeon and Anna.......This is a lovely piece of art which I have not seen before.
What understanding he had, to recognize His God's salvation in such a humble-looking baby! I love those temple events.
