Rosemary and The Bee

Like the bees, Mr. Glad and I have been using the last warm days of autumn to finish up some outdoor projects. I wanted to have a pot of flowers by the front door, and he had got us started on a new long triangle of lawn-replacement landscaping. Today we finished up the latter, and I took some pictures of various things in the front yard.

I have several pots now that I can rotate in and out sitting on the upended log by the door. The roses were blooming in the back yard so brought them out front to the place of honor without bothering to pull out the weeds.

This pic shows where the patch of lawn was replaced with some little shrubs and perennials that don't need much water. They are small now but will spread out before long. Parts of the front yard still need sprucing up for winter, but I wanted to take this picture before the flowers faded from the new plants.

Wouldn't you know it, the bees have not run out of flowers from which to gather nectar. They were working alongside us, in the rosemary bushes that are in full bloom. Now I think I've posted pictures of bees in five or six different flowers. I'll have to do some research on that and consider doing a bee album!

Aren't bees adorable? My hubby says they have the cutest little faces :) Rosemary is a favorite plant here. I haven't gotten mine to bloom yet though. Your yard is looking grand!! Good work for you and your hubs!

Your front lawn project looks good, and when it grows it it will be great. We need to do something like that at my house too...I've got some ideas but haven't gotten around to implementing them yet.

I'm looking forward to the day my rosemary begins to bloom...it's just a new little plant at the moment.

One thing that always makes me happy is when my garden is alive with bees. We get lots and lots of bumblebees, but the honeybees are here, too. Of course, they're gone for winter, but I look forward to their return.

The thing that really stands out to me in your pictures, a part of all that is so beautiful, is your DIRT. It is lovely, loose looking and I just want to put my hands in it. So different than our dirt here. Your home has a peaceful look, soothing, and happy.

ww, I'm sorry to say that it is not dirt you are seeing in the newly planted bed, but shredded redwood bark that we put on as mulch. The dirt under it we did try to amend by adding several bags of compost, because what we naturally have here is a clay soil called adobe. It usually takes quite a bit of effort over years to make anything loose and loamy!

Now you will know for sure that I am shallow! Here is my comment and it will be all about roses and doors- oh it is a beautiful front door! And I think I have a little rose in a little pot outside our patio doors at the back, and that it is uncannily like yours. That does make me smile! I will think of you every time I see it. Unlike yours, mine is weedy and probably quite sad.

Garden looks gorgeous. Well done, all!

your home looks warm and inviting, Gretchen; love the front door with the blue and the flowers. I think the sheep have eaten my rosemary...sigh. I'd so hoped it would overwinter again.
