This morning had all of it.

the first red zinnia

"The early morning has gold in its mouth," said Ben Franklin. I bet he meant a different sort from what I found this morning. The birds started in earlier than ever today, at 5:00, but I was already awake!

After a while I realized that getting up was the thing to do. I just now read that some have called that moment when you get up earlier than you really wanted the Heroic Moment. Today was not that, because by the time I did throw off the blankets I was completely happy about the decision and it was easy to do.

sweet basil and nasturtiums competing

So often we have fog and cold feet in the mornings, but today was actually summery. The sun was shining, and the air had never taken on that cruel sharpness overnight - I could have eaten my breakfast outdoors at 6 a.m., but I didn't even think of it. The windows and door were open and I listened to the birds and marveled.

Early Girl is growing fast.

I walked around in the garden and took pictures of the flowers before the sun had a chance to get up high and glare at them.

My early morning had gold and silver and rubies and diamonds and all was bathed in the glory of God.

Well said, GJ! We've had smoke from the Colorado Springs fire, so this morning when I came downstairs it smelled like an ashtray. SAD.
My beans are popping up and I bought two nasturtiums yesterday and planted them in a built in flower box.
I love the looks of your juicy basil and your nasturtiums! California is such a friendly place.

Your early morning jewels are lovely treasures. Early morning is the most wonderful time, especially an extra early morning such as this. Sounds like yours was quite glorious.

I love getting up early in the morning and enjoying the crisp morning air as I walk through my garden. Everything seems so fresh at that time.

A meander through the garden is a lovely way to begin your day. I love the phrase "bathed in God's glory." My own garden has that same aura to it this morning.

I loved taking a morning walk with you GJ. The first zinnia is always such a thrill, isn't it? Beautiful jewels.

When at liberty to do so, you can imagine the actual circumstances that must line up for this to be possible, I love to run right out right behind the cats barefoot onto the stones to see, hear and smell the morning and test the temperature.

I enjoyed this visit with your morning refreshment.

As the summer goes on, I get up later and later ... and yet I love early morning in the summertime. Everything smells so sweet!

I LOVE the concept of the Heroic Moment. It will make me feel more noble as I hop out of bed on these cold winter mornings..

Gretchen, I adore the early mornings. We're coming on the longest day of the year and the coming of winter. That's so strange, especially as it's so hot for the next few weeks.

Gold and silver and rubies and diamonds make us the richest of children when we recognize them from the hand of our Father. your morning was positively regal!

Thank you for sharing this early morning walk around your garden - I love being able to potter about my pocket-handkerchief even for a few minutes before plunging into the day, preferably with a coffee in hand. I shall bear in mind the idea of the Heroic Moment - it will be encouraging once the mornings get dark again!
