About 7 o'clock this morning I put out a little cat food in advance of the guests' arrival. A few minutes later a large non-feline shape loomed into view. I've never seen such a big raccoon in our suburban neighborhood! And isn't it a little late in the "night" for him to be out scavenging?

Wow! He is large. And he looks like he didn't get enough to satisfy. :D
He does look huge! What was he doing with the bowl? Was he still picking up kibbles or giving you a hint about its emptiness?
They are so cute IN OTHER PEOPLES' YARDS! I have seen them on our patio and they can get so big that when there are a few feasting on pet chow, they tend to cause a little chill of horror. They are very good at opening Rubbermaid tubs, I've learned.
ha! great captures...
Looking at his size, I'll bet he makes daily rounds of your neighborhood =-)
Oh, he is so cute....we rarely see them where I live in Montana. I suppose they are down on the food chain here.
Oh, be care GJ!! I've heard that coons that come out during daylight may be rabid; quite a number of them do carry rabies.
Don't worry--I'm not opening the door to anyone like that!
Oh boy. He'll be back again!

oh dear.. the cats have some competition.
Poor guy, he's hungry. I am glad you are not a respecter of persons when feeding. It must be so hard for racoons (don't have them there) and foxes and badgers (do have) when they have to venture into suburbia just to keep alive.
Wow, he is a large racoon - handsome though! I too put out left over food from our two cats for our garden visitors - most cats around here are well feed but the foxes and badgers need food at this time of year:) Thank you for your kind comment on my blog:)
Yikes, that's one big raccoon!
I'd bet he'd taste good boiled.
(That's a joke, son.)
frances
Enormous!
Now you need to revisit the old classic, 'The Raccoon and Mrs. McGinnis.' :-)
Janet, it doesn't take much to persuade me to buy a book--I saw that my library doesn't carry that one, so I just now ordered a used copy!
